Tuesday and Wednesday last week (22nd – 23rd May) saw all of the top coffee businesses in the country (and beyond) descend upon the London Olympia for the biggest industry only event of the year, the European coffee expo. Despite being the inaugural event, it was a huge success both for the brands exhibiting and for the attendees.
What went on
As an industry only event there was a wide range of different brands exhibiting their wares, from the traditional roasters and coffee machines to newer products like nitro coffee and reusable cups. WMF launched our latest and most technologically advanced machine, the WMF 1500 S+, and also our CoffeeConnect app. The 1500 S+ boasts advanced features such as Dynamic Coffee Assist which guarantees the very best quality espresso will be produced every single time. It is fully compatible with the CoffeeConnect digital solution, meaning the management of the machine can be handled from anywhere in the world, allowing you to work more flexibly whilst maximising efficiency.
As well as having all of the top industry brands exhibiting their latest products and innovations, there was also full programme of speakers across the 2 day event featuring representatives from top brands such as Costa Express and Caravan Coffee Roasters. Unlike other coffee events that are also aimed at consumers, this gave businesses the unique opportunity both to see what is available, and to learn some tips direct from the experts.
On top of this there was also the sensory workshop, where visitors were taught techniques such as cupping and profiling direct from the experts, learning how to buy the very best quality beans. The event also hosted the Innovation Path and Awards, to honour the brands and products that are driving the industry forwards (with WMF CoffeeConnect being shortlisted). The overall winner was the ingenious Butterfly Cup, which is a very distinctive looking disposable coffee cup that uses folding flaps in the place of a conventional lid. This manages to both save costs and reduce the risk of spillages due to its unique shape.
WMF were delighted to be exhibiting at the event, showing our latest machines such as the WMF 1500 S+, and also featuring an interactive CoffeeConnect table. This allowed us to really show attendees how this solution can be used to manage all of their machines centrally without having to be physically on site.
We were also very proud to be sponsoring the Conference Area across the 2 day event, giving businesses the chance to learn important lessons from the top leaders in the coffee world. We really can’t wait to go back next year!
If you didn’t make it to the European Coffee Expo this time, no need to wait for next year to find out more about the innovative coffee machines WMF have to offer. Download a brochure to see the whole range.
